The nature of the creative industries is such that all artists work independently, either under contract or not.  It is therefore imperative that each area has a representative body to which artists can belong and turn to for support, networking and resources.  The New Zealand Society of Authors (PEN NZ Inc) is that body for writers.  Also a member of the CCUG (Coalition of Creative Unions and Guilds) through which we work with similar arts organisations, the NZSA offers writers and authors a supportive and united voice in the creative industries.

Over the past 75 years, New Zealand PEN has been proactive in the affairs of writers, and the year 2009 calls for celebration and recognition of its hard work and achievements.
