Nelson Live Poets next meeting on Wednesday 21 June presents former Poet Laureate Ian Wedde as special guest. The evening starts at 6.45 pm with music from local poet and musician Hone Simpson. The venue is The Royal Hotel, corner of Collingwood & Bridge Streets, Nelson.
Ian Wedde’s visit to Nelson coincides with marking 45 years since his first work was published, and, 16 collections of poetry later, his work is described as ‘taking the pulse of New Zealand’.
To mark the milestone, Wedde’s Selected Poems, was published last month by Auckland University Press.
As well as being New Zealand Poet Laureate for 2011-13, Wedde received the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement (poetry) in 2014. He’s also published novels, art monographs and catalogues.
Poets (and musicians) can register on the night. Entry by koha at the door. Drinks and snacks are available from the bar. For more information contact Judith Paviell, email@example.com, 03-547 7514 or 027 484 3077 or Carol Ercolano, firstname.lastname@example.org, 03-545 0162.
