- A bi-monthly magazine, The New Zealand Author carries, amongst other things, professional development articles. This magazine is currently being assessed with a view to improving its design, quality and content.
- A weekly email newsletter keeps members up to date with competition deadlines, fellowships, freedom of speech and current and overseas writing news. This invaluable tool will be developed and updated as part of our website upgrade.
A range of professional development leaflets covers several aspects of writing from finding a publisher to copyright protection.
- Booklets on Writers and Tax, The Self-publishing Guide, Marketing Your Book and Getting Published are for sale to members and non-members.
- Our model standard contract, The Business of Writing, helps writers understand a publishing contract
- The Members only section of the NZSA website is a comprehensive source of information on all aspects of the publishing process plus listings and links specifically designed for writers.

- The seven regional branches provide social and business activities so members can network, learn aspects of the craft of writing and participate in decision-making.
- Branches offer workshops and seminars, often combined with social events.
