The service is available to all New Zealand writers, however it is subsidised for NZSA members.

The NZSA Manuscript Appraisal Service is an excellent opportunity for writers who have completed part or all of a manuscript to get a professional overview of their unpublished work. The manuscripts are appraised by experienced authors and assessors in a one to two page report. They will also answer up to three specific questions that the writer may submit with the manuscript.

While the manuscript appraisal is not a substitute for a full manuscript assessment it will give the writer a critical response to the work with comments on the writer's technical ability, suggestions for improvement and advice on the next step. The report should be taken as an indication of areas the writer could look at to improve either their skills or the content of the work.
