Dr Jo Cribb has resigned as Chief Executive of Read NZ Te Pou Muramura (formerly the New Zealand Book Council), effective from 20 December 2019.
She will be replaced by Juliet Blyth, currently General Manager of Vic Books in Wellington. Juliet is currently Chair of Booksellers New Zealand and a board member of the Coalition for Books. She has been, up until now, a board member of Read NZ Te Pou Muramura.
Peter Biggs, Chair of Read NZ Te Pou Muramura said:
“We are sorry to lose Jo. She has made a huge contribution to the organisation and her unique set of skills has propelled us strongly forward towards our goal of building a nation of readers.
“I, personally, and the Board are very grateful for Jo’s collegiality, strategic ability, leadership skills, vision and executional focus.
“Jo has a busy portfolio life and the time pressure on her to fulfil her many other commitments has led to the difficult decision to resign from Read NZ Te Pou Muramura.
“We sincerely thank Jo and wish her well.
“We are delighted that Juliet has agreed to take up the role of Chief Executive at Read NZ Te Pou Muramura.
“The Board was seeking a proven leader – someone who ‘gets’ readers and books; who knows how to engage audiences and stakeholders; who has shown that they can grow an organisation/business revenue-wise; who is connected and respected – particularly within and by the literary sector; who is deeply committed to the purpose of Read NZ – to make Aotearoa New Zealand a better place by inspiring more Kiwis to read more often; who can do the nuts and bolts of management – especially financial management; who burns with a deep desire to make Read NZ successful – and can innovate and make things happen; and who can nurture and inspire a team to achieve.
“Juliet proactively stepped forward and the Board thought that there wouldn’t be a better person for the role.
“Her knowledge of Read NZ Te Pou Muramura means that she will be able to hit the ground running when she takes up the Chief Executive role in early February 2020.
”Given her new role, Juliet will resign from membership of the Board of Read NZ Te Pou Muramura.”
