Courage Day 15 November 2016

PEN NZ has received the names of writers PEN is officially recognising this year for Courage Day, known as The Day of the Imprisoned Writer outside New Zealand.

These five writers have suffered threats, attacks and imprisonment solely for their peaceful free expression work, that are emblematic of the risks faced by our colleagues worldwide. Our focus cases for 2016 are:

  • Ahmed Naji (Egypt)
  • Asl? Erdo?an (Turkey)
  • Cesario Alejandro Félix Padilla Figueroa (Honduras)
  • Dareen Tatour (Israel)
  • Gui Minhai (China)

Action papers for the above cases are here. We encourage all visitors to this page to write letters to the relevant authorities as suggested in the action papers, and to share the papers, and any specific activities you are organising, on social media and with your local media.
