Everyone is welcome to the launch of Carolyn Hawes’ crime novel The Floating Basin at Westport Library on Saturday 18 March, 11 am.
The book is set in a fictionalised Westport and features detective Ru Clement. While working on the novel in 2014 Carolyn received a NZSA mentorship with Elizabeth Smither, who provides the following review:
‘Detective Ru Clement is a new addition to the New Zealand crime scene. A body is discovered in a tidal lagoon on the South Island’s west coast and Ru must untangle a complicated web of past and present events, including those in his own life. A cast of well-drawn characters combines with sharp observation about small town life where characters are larger than life and conflicts easily become savage.’
At the book launch there will be readings, refreshments and copies of the book for sale. Anyone interested in ordering in advance can contact Carolyn on 03-789 54988 or 022 422 79495. She is planning to have launches in Nelson and Wellington as well.
