Nelson Live Poets meet on the third Tuesday of the month at The On Inn, which is in the basement underneath the Inn Between Backpackers, 335 Trafalgar Street, Nelson, on the east side of the cathedral.

Their next meeting on Tuesday 16 October brings together The Word, The Reckoning and The Rose, three Nelson and Golden Bay poets with diverse styles, genuine voices and a love for the written and spoken word: Mark Raffills, Henry Ludbrook and Rose Michel von Dreger. 

A finalist in the NZ Poetry Slam 2011 and 2015, Mark Raffills has shared the stage with the likes of Hone Tuwhare, Rachel Bush and David Eggleton. He has performed at venues throughout NZ, as well as a couple in Australia, either solo or with the bluegrass/folk/blues-based Dirt Floor Alliance. He recently performed Mark Twain’s War Prayer as part of this year’s Nelson Fringe Festival.

Henry Ludbrook is a Nelson-based poet who has been published in Poetry New Zealand. His poetry blog called River Deliver Me can be found at  He has been writing poems since he was sixteen.

Rose Michel von Dreger won a Robbie Burns award in Canada for her poetry and in New Zealand was asked to open for Sam Hunt. She has since written a book about the wilderness of the heart.
