WAIKATO WRITERS COURAGE DAY EVENT NOV 9

In some parts of the world poetry can land you in prison…

In mid November, the New Zealand PEN’s Courage Day (also known as The Day of the Imprisoned Writer) recognises writers who defend the right to free speech, and those who suffer oppression and are killed / imprisoned for their work.

In support of imprisoned international writers, Waikato authors are organising a poetry reading under the title

When Poetry lands you in Prison

                    When?        9 November 2018, 7.30 pm

Where?       Meteor Theatre,  1 Victoria St. , Hamilton

                                        Entry by koha

Waikato writers read from their own works and read out some poetry by imprisoned international authors, so as to lend them a voice.

The texts of the imprisoned writers will be sourced from the PEN International headquarters in London.
