The New Zealand Society of Authors (PEN NZ Inc) held their AGM Saturday 11 June and Joan Rosier-Jones was appointed President of Honour 2016 – 2017. This position is awarded to a writer in recognition of their services to the Society and to the literary community.
Joan has a rich history with the New Zealand Society of Authors, engaging both at the National level and Branch level. She was Chair of the Auckland Branch from 1993-1995, President of the Society 1999-2001 and a member of the National Council as delegate for North Island’s Central Districts 2003 to 2011. Joan has also represented authors on two boards. When authors became shareholders of Copyright Licensing NZ, Joan was one of the first writer directors and stayed an integral member of the board 1996-2004. She was the NZSA representative on the Copyright Council, now known as WeCreate 1998-2000.
Joan continues to share her wisdom on the NZSA Membership Advisory Committee, is a mentor and assessor in the NZSA professional development programme funded by Creative New Zealand. Joan also tutors in writing.
