Description

Book Reviewing – with Paula Morris

6:30pm – 8pm, Thursday 24 August

The new Aotearoa NZ Review of Books site publishes long-form reviews of new books from New Zealand. Its kaupapa is original, informed criticism accessible to a general readership, enriching the cultural landscape and enabling impact, both local and international, for our writers, books and ideas.

Each month we publish about eight reviews – fiction, poetry, memoir, general nonfiction, academic books from NZ university presses, art books, and books for children and YA.

The ANZRB is offering a series of webinars to help aspiring and emerging reviewers develop or sharpen their skills in long-form reviewing. We are also offering twelve mentorships with experienced book-page editors Eleanor Black, Steve Braunias, Paula Morris and Guy Somerset, funded by the Mātātuhi Foundation.

Four of these mentorships have been reserved for NZSA members who apply after attending the webinar on 24 August. Mentees will receive $200 to write a sample review and revise it after feedback from their mentors. This review can serve as a calling card to help new reviewers get commissions from a range of media.

Fee: NZSA Members – $35. (Non-members – $65)

(bookings close at 2pm on the day prior to the workshop or when workshop reaches capacity)
