License to Steal – webworkshop – Lynley Edmeades
10am to 12pm, Saturday 11 December 2021
Oscar Wilde once proclaimed that “talent borrows, genius steals,” and for hundreds of years, poets have plucked words and lines from those that have come before them. This workshop will look at the intertextuality of poetry: how we might begin our own work by entering conversation with those who have gone before us by stealing, curating and, ultimately paying homage, to our literary predecessors.
Lynley Edmeades is a poet and essayist. She is the author of two poetry collections, and the forthcoming book collaboration with painter Saskia Leek, ‘Bordering on Miraculous’ (Massey University Press, 2022). She is the current editor of Landfall and lives in Dunedin where she lectures in poetry and creative writing.
