Shaun Barnett

Shaun Barnett (Pākehā New Zealander, Te Whanganui a Tara / Wellington) is a writer, editor and photographer specialising in the outdoors.

He studied science (zoology and ecology) before a brief career with the Department of Conservation, then turned to full-time writing, editing and photography in the late 1990s.

Since then, he has published 10 books, and written over 1250 articles, book reviews and stories for various magazines, newspapers and periodicals, both in New Zealand and internationally. His books have won various awards, including a Montana New Zealand Book Award, two Booksellers' Choice awards, and the Bamford-Nankervis grand prize for Mountain Book of the Year. Shaun was also editor of Wilderness magazine (1999–2003) and Backcountry, the Federated Mountains Club bulletin (2008–2018).

Shaun also reviews books on Radio New Zealand.
