Entries are now open for the 2019 Pikihuia Awards (formerly the Huia Short Story Awards).
This is a biennial competition that started in 1995 to discover and recognise Māori writers. The awards encourage diverse Māori viewpoints and writing in both te reo Māori and English.
There are six awards across a range of categories, with the winner of each category receiving a $2,000 cash prize and two highly commended finalists in each category recieving a cash prize of $500.
The selected winners and finalists are also published in the Huia Short Stories collection – a contemporary fiction series published by Huia Publishers. Entries close on 8 April.
