Due to the current COVID-19 alert levels, the Māori Literature Trust has made the decision to move the 2021 Pikihuia Awards online. Our celebration of Māori writers and emerging creative writing talent will continue in an online ceremony:
2021 Pikihuia Awards
Celebrating the work of aspiring and emerging Māori writers
Date: Saturday, 30 October 2021
Time: 1:00 p.m. Facebook and YouTube
Our aim is to make the awards as special and as inclusive as we can, given the circumstances. The online ceremony will be hosted by Jase Te Patu from a studio at Te Raukura, Te Wharewaka o Pōneke, to support local businesses and event venues in these difficult times. We will be calling in our guest speakers and writers from around the country, including our judges Carol Hirschfeld, Maiki Sherman, Emma Espiner, and Vini Olsen-Reeder.
We would like to acknowledge the support of Creative New Zealand, Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori, Te Māngai Pāho, The New Zealand Society of Authors Te Puni Kaituhi o Aotearoa and Huia Publishers who have made this new online ceremony possible. And thanks to you for supporting our vision to recognise talented writers and take Māori literature to the world.
We hope to see you online at 1 p.m., Saturday, 30 October 2021 for the 2021 Pikihuia Awards.
Ngā mihi, nā
