We invite you to bring one item to be auctioned off at this year-end event. From book bundles to household items – we know you all have something you’d love to pass along to another member. We’ll auction off the items at the party. Thank you in advance for your donations – and we’ll look forward to seeing what you might go home with!

December Salon
The final 2023 Salon will have a focus around language, poetry and music. We’ll have guest readers first, then an open mic – bring your wonderful work to share, too.

Robert Sullivan (he/him/ia, Ngāpuhi and Kāi Tahu) has won multiple awards for his poetry, editing, and writing for children, including the 2022 Lauris Edmond Memorial Award for a distinguished contribution to New Zealand poetry. Tunui Comet (Auckland University Press, 2022) is his eighth poetry collection. His widely acclaimed book Star Waka (AUP 1999) has been reprinted many times. Robert’s an Associate Professor of Creative Writing at Massey University. He is a great fan of all kinds of decolonisation.
Poet and filmmaker Charles Olsen grew up in Dunedin and lives in Spain. His awards include the XIII distinction Poetas de Otros Mundos from the International Poetry Fund in 2017, the III Antonio Machado Poetry Fellowship of Segovia and Soria in 2018 and the Our Little Roses Poetry Fellowship in Honduras in 2022 and 2023. Together with the Colombian poet and actress Lilián Pallares he has facilitated writing and filmmaking workshops for children of all ages. Recently, he created the collaborative te reo Māori poetry film Noho Mai, which won ‘Best Poetry Film’ at the 8th Ó Bhéal International Poetry Film Festival in 2020.
Lola Elvy writes music, poetry and other forms of creative fiction and nonfiction. Currently pursuing a degree in music and mathematics, Lola is passionate about language and the environment. She is founding editor of the online youth journal fingers comma toes, which hosts the National Flash Fiction Day youth competition. Lola has taught workshops for literary festivals in Aotearoa New Zealand and tutors online youth courses in poetry, fiction and essay writing. Her work has been featured at events and in online and print anthologies, including Fast Fibres, Olentangy Review and The Larger Geometry: poems for peace.
