MOTUEKA MUSIC GROUP: ‘KATHERINE MANSFIELD AND HER MUSIC’

The next concert from the Motueka Music Group on Tuesday 22 March features cellist Joseph Spooner and pianist Kathryn Mosley performing as the Spooner Mosley duo. Their concert ‘Katherine Mansfield and her music’ explores music linked to this celebrated New Zealand author.

Katherine Mansfield’s cello teacher while in London was Arnold Trowell, the NZ virtuoso cellist who was based in London as an adult. This concert includes a work by Trowell dedicated to Mansfield, as well as one by him we know she admired greatly. There is also a work by Hugo Anson (New Zealander, and teacher of Douglas Lilburn) and another by our locally–based NZ  composer, John Rimmer. The programme also features a classic Chopin sonata, part of the cello and piano repertoire that Mansfield loved and which informed her writing.

The concert takes place at 7.30 pm at the Chanel Arts Centre, corner of Fearon & High Streets, Motueka. Tickets are available from Floral Affaire, High Street, or at the door on the night. Adults $20, school children $5. For more information about the Motueka Music Group see www.motuekamusic.com
