The Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd) has opened entries for the 2027 IPEd Student Prize, an annual award for outstanding student work in editing. 

The prize is open to any tertiary-level student enrolled in an editing or publishing course at an Australian or New Zealand tertiary institution, including students who finish their studies at the end of the first semester. Entries can include edited manuscripts, editing portfolios, research papers relevant to the editing or publishing industry, or other assessed work relevant to the editing profession, submitted for assessment in 2026. 

The winner receives $500, a one-year IPEd membership, a dictionary and style guide or manual of their choice, a copy of The Editor’s Companion by Janet Mackenzie DE, and a two-day online course from Biotext worth $594. 

Last year’s winner, Josephine Parker, a Master of Arts (Professional Writing and Publishing) student at Curtin University, said the recognition changed how she thought about her own editing: it “made me realise how much an editor can genuinely improve a book” (IPEd, June 2026). 

Entries close 7 pm NZST on Monday 9 November 2026.
