BOOK LAUNCH IN NELSON
You are invited to celebrate Bonnie Etherington’s debut novel The Earth Cries Out on Tuesday 21 March, 5.30 pm at Page & Blackmore Booksellers, 254 Trafalgar Street, Nelson.
Dark things happen but the touch is light in Bonnie Etherington’s fresh, different and exquisitely-written debut novel. After the accidental death of five-year-old Julia, the family departs Nelson to undertake aid work in a West Papuan mountain village. It’s the late 1990s and they encounter a completely different culture from home; with a vibrant landscape, severe illness, political upheaval and a place where death is an everyday occurrence. After two years of difficulty the family is evacuated due to the civil unrest. Underpinning the personal story, the novel also tells the complex story of Indonesian imperialism in the region.
Bonnie Etherington was born in Nelson but spent most of her childhood in West Papua and her experiences there inspired The Earth Cries Out.
At the book launch Bonnie will be reading from the book and will be happy to sign copies.
Please RSVP by 17 March to info@pageandblckmore.co.nz or phone 03-548 9992.
