PANEL DISCUSSION: HISTORICAL FICTION – FACT OR FACTION?

PANEL DISCUSSION: HISTORICAL FICTION – FACT OR FACTION?

The Nelson Historical Society invites you to join a panel discussion on the merits of faction – the blending of fact with fiction – in presenting history.

Convenor, history writer Karen Stade, will chair the panel of Golden Bay writers Suzanne Clark (Keep Your Head Up, My Girl; His Father’s Will; Awhina’s People) and Gerard Hindmarsh (Angelina), and Nelson writer Alexandra Tidswell (Lewisville). They will discuss what happens when historical fact is blended with fiction, the role and value of fiction in historical writing, and the benefits and difficulties encountered in novelising history.

The discussion will take place on Monday 14 August at the Masonic Hall, 107 Nile Street, Nelson at 7.30 pm. The cost is $2 at the door, and a light supper will be served after the meeting. Copies of the author’s books will be available for sale at the end of the meeting ($25-$35 each, cash or cheque).
