AUTHOR TALK AT MOTUEKA

Everyone is welcome to Motueka Library on Thursday 21 June, 2 – 3 pm, to when Top of the South writer Bruce Gilkison will be talking about his book Walking With James Hogg: the Ettrick Shepherd’s Journeys Through Scotland.

Bruce’s ancestor James Hogg, also known as the Ettrick Shepherd, was a nineteenth century writer, poet, sportsman, musician and larger-than-life personality. Hogg’s book Confessions of a Justified Sinner has been called by Irvine Welsh ‘one of the most brilliant books ever written.’

Bruce’s book is based on Hogg’s journeys through the Highlands and Islands of Scotland from 1802, and includes his own misadventures along with his ancestor’s.  It was published by Edinburgh University Press in 2016.
