‘Disturbance’ World Premiere

OPENING Tokyo: July 2nd, 2019 through July 4th, 2019 at Musicasa.

A verse novel on domestic violence comes to life on the Tokyo stage.

‘Disturbance’, the musical, tells the chilling tale of a family, a community, and a dark secret.

Adapted for the stage by Rachel Walzer, ‘Disturbance’ is based on the book by Ivy Alvarez, with music by Tony Award-winning producer Mark Ferris.

“Never could I have predicted that one day my book would inspire a stage production and premiere in Tokyo, but I am so thrilled it has,” said Ivy Alvarez, a widely-published and anthologised poet thrice-nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

‘Disturbance’ is a story that needs to be told, and shines a light on a prominent social issue which deserves more attention — domestic violence.

“The show’s powerful themes on important social issues, combined with a stellar cast and high-energy music, make for compelling theatre,” said Rachel Walzer, director.

‘Disturbance’ is a dramatic, musical exploration of a dark secret, with a tragic ending.

What begins with a normal family dealing with ordinary issues — a husband and wife, who met 27 years ago, raising their two children, maintaining a home, living among their friends, family and neighbours — quickly unravels.

Mark Ferris, who composed the score, added, “It’s a privilege to be part of this world premiere, which started from a casual conversation on adapting Ivy’s brilliant work for the stage.”

The cast for ‘Disturbance’ includes some of Tokyo’s most talented performers.

‘Disturbance’ opens at Musicasa on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2019 and runs through Thursday, July 4th, 2019.
