Dennis McEldowney features on the Season 2 Final of the NZSA Oral History Podcast Series

” ‘Who wants to write the great New Zealand play?’ I asked.”

” ‘I’d like to if I could,’ she said.”

Dennis McEldowney is remembered for his twenty years as editor of the Auckland University Press and also as an award-winning author, an active member of PEN NZ and a great diary keeper – his book Full of the Warm South was essentially his diaries of living in 1960’s Dunedin.  Dennis believed a diary was a better keeper of history than memory and in our final episode for Season 2 Dennis reads parts of his diary, followed by discussions with Michael King on what the diary revealed.  New Zealand broadcaster, NZSA member and author Karyn Hay hosts the NZSA Oral History Podcast Series and takes us into this unique episode.

Dennis died in 2003 and Michael King in 2004 and this interview remains a treasured part of our national cultural heritage collection.

We’ll now be putting down the microphone for a while to work on some new episodes with well known living writers such as Tessa Duder, Witi Ihimaera and Joy Cowley.   To make sure you don’t miss an episode when we return subscribe to the podcast wherever you get your podcasts.
