Seeking a Wasafiri Editor at Large – closes Feb 11

By Wasafiri Editor on January 11, 2021 in Articles

Our brand-new Editor at Large initiative welcomes applications from those interested in promoting local editors, writers, and arts organisations in their regions to collaborate with Wasafiri, and participate in Wasafiri’s editorial and production process.

For the first year of the scheme, we are seeking applicants from Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, and New Zealand—parts of the world we are particularly keen to feature in the magazine, and work with to grow local talent. All Editors at Large will work from their respective countries and communicate with the London office online.

About the position

Wasafiri has launched these positions to help us to foster new relationships and aid our efforts to discover, support, and promote new voices from around the world. Editors at Large based in these regions will enable us to receive more diverse work, broaden our editorial pool, and rejuvenate our editorial norms, as well as expand our readership. To accomplish this, we will provide Editors at Large with access to the inner workings of the magazine and, in so doing, develop a feedback loop that welcomes and responds to their input. We will also encourage the production and circulation of digital content, which will enable editors to take greater ownership of the magazine and to create an immediate impact through their involvement.

In turn, Editors at Large will be provided with a free magazine subscription and ad placement within the magazine, as well as access to Wasafiri’s global network of writers, readers, publishers, and scholars, with whom they can promote their work and initiatives. In addition to being listed on our website and in the print magazine, Editors at Large will be offered paid writing and event-organising opportunities during their tenure. Wasafiri is keen to platform and champion the work of our Editors at Large, while providing opportunities to extend their contacts across the fields and sites within which we operate.

Ideal candidates will possess a good undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline or relevant work/professional experience, and be passionate about Wasafiri’s vision of expanding the boundaries of mainstream literary culture. We particularly welcome applications from those who have established reputations as writers/editors/academics, or are affiliated with a writing groups, publications, universities, or arts organisations.
