The Prize was established in 2021 and is funded by the Crystal Arts Trust, which was founded by James and Rosetta Allan to support literature, music and visual art. The main purpose of the Prize is to recognise the student in the Master of Creative Writing degree at the University of Auckland who has completed, in the year of the award, the highest-quality manuscript most likely to succeed commercially. The Prize aims to facilitate the publication of that manuscript. More here.
