Seeking NZSATPKoA Te Māngai Māori ki te Poari Board Delegate

NZSA Te Puni Kaituhi o Aotearoa Board Delegate: Te Māngai Māori ki te Poari

The New Zealand Society of Authors Te Puni Kaituhi O Aotearoa PEN NZ Inc (NZSATPKoA) holds a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi through building cohesive systems that ensure working with Māori in meaningful ways and developing paths for Māori writers within NZSA. NZSA recognises Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the unique position of Tangata Whenua within Aotearoa New Zealand.

We are seeking nominations and expressions of interest for a new Te Māngai Māori te Poari to continue representing NZSA Māori writers on NZSA Board. In our May AGM this year, we passed a resolution to establish a 9th pan-Māori branch alongside our regional branches and seek a new Te Māngai Māori ki te Poari delegate to stand this branch up and bring the voices of Māori Writers to the NZSA Board. (In line with our new strategic plan, we are currently seeking support at the national office from 2023 to develop programmes within NZSATPKoA for Māori writers.) The NZSATPKoA Board meets 4 times a year, mostly on zoom, and communicates via a message board as required.

If you are a member of NZSA and are interested in this role or would like to nominate someone, please email director@nzauthors.org.nz.

The Delegate receives a $250 annual honorarium and $350 per Board meeting. Travel expenses to attend any face-to-face meetings are paid.

Our current te Māngai Māori te Poari Kim Harris is making herself available for these zoom times, to discuss the role, with any interested parties:

30mins on Wed 6th July @7pm (online Zoom)

30mins on Wed 13th July @7pm (online Zoom)

Contact director@nzauthors.org.nz to receive the zoom links.

Primary responsibility
To provide governance of the Society for the benefit of all members and to act as a reference point for the branch community, maintaining contact with members and other Māori writers’ organisations.

Ideal attributes:
1. A grasp of the issues facing Māori writers;
2. The ability to contribute to the strategy and direction of NZSA; and
3. A willingness to contribute to National Board cohesion and good working relationships.

We look for Board members who offer diverse experience, skills, or perspectives and welcome all applications. The NZSA National Board honours the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and works to ensure that a wide range of perspectives are considered in all decision-making.

For our younger members, we represent your writing futures too and welcome your input at the Board level. This is an opportunity to gain governance experience as part of career development. We can provide a board mentor for new delegates to develop your governance experience.
