Anne Ingram

Anne Ingram writes primarily for young readers of 8-15.  She is the author of the Lucy Bee trilogy which follows heroine Lucy from the ages of 10 to 15 through the many challenges and adventures she faces while growing up. The titles are: #1 Lucy Bee & the Secret Gene, #2 Bonjour Lucy Bee, #3 Lucy Bee & Soline.  Her firsr novel for young readers, written when she was living in Singapore, was Sea Robbers, about a young New Zealander and his Malaysian friend who are taken captive by modern day pirates off the coast of Borneo.  While living in Asia, she was commissioned to write three collections of Asian legends which were released in Asia, the UK and New Zealand.  Her short stories have been broadcast on National Radio and published in the School Journal. For many years Anne produced and presented a weekly children’s programme for Coast Access Radio. She has worked as a journalist, editor, teacher and bookseller, managing her own specialist children’s bookstore, Moby Dickens’ Books.  Currently, she is on the board of the Kapiti Children’s Writers’ Group Charitable Trust, and for the Trust, she edited  and published Shortz – Stories from Kapiti, a collection of 21 stories set in Kapiti by Kapiti writers (KCWG, 2012) and produced Shortz – Stories from Kapiti : 2 CDs (KCWG,  2013).  In 2015 she edited and published Flying High - Stories & Poems from Kapiti, a collection written and illustrated by the children of Kapiti. She was born in Auckland and spent her childhood in Dunedin, Te Kuiti and Orewa.  She’s lived and worked in Wellington, London, Christchurch, Singapore, Hamilton and France, but has spent the longest time where she lives now, in Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast.  She has a BA in English and Diploma of Teaching (Secondary).

Bonjour Lucy Bee

The second in the Lucy Bee series, Bonjour Lucy Bee, is set in France with Lucy on a summer holiday. It explores the issue of Europe's refugee crisis. and is about identity and belonging. For Lucy, 12, this means getting along with her French family while also standing up for what she believes is right. For young Afghan refugee Qasim, whose entire family have been killed by the Taliban, his dream is to find a place where there is peace and where he can belong amongst a family of people.

The first in the Lucy Bee series, Lucy Bee & the Secret Gene finds Lucy, 10, after being bullied about her hair, wondering if she really is part of the Bennett family.  She doesn't look like her parents, and there are no relatives who have hair like hers. With her friend Megan, she decides to track her genes to find out the truth, and makes it her project for the school Science Fair. (This title is used in Year 10 science classes)

Sea Robbers

Sea Robbers is set on the island of Borneo in the South China Sea. Ben, on holiday, has been hearing about pirates raiding local villages and dreams of meeting them. He wonders what they are really like, and where they live. A  visit to see the sea turtles results in a boat accident, leaving Ben and his new friend Mahmood stranded on an island. When they accidently stumble on a pirate camp, the boys discover that modern day pirates are a lot more dangerous than they could have ever imagined.

Lucy Bee & Soline

The third title in the Lucy Bee trilogy, Lucy & Soline, is about having a place to stand and finding a role for oneself in the world. It begins on the Kapiti Coast where Lucy's family are hosting French exchange student, Soline. When sightseeing locally, Soline is shocked at how little Lucy knows about her country's history. Well versed in her own French history, she awakens Lucy to the importance of her New Zealand history. Their friendship leads to a visit to Soline's home in Burgundy where Lucy, trying to unravel a family mystery, discovers a forgotten New Zealand heritage which opens the way to an exciting future.
