Anni Docking

Anni Docking is a New Zealand poet, wordsmith and social entrepreneur. Graduating from the University of Auckland in 2016, her B.A. (Hons) in English Literature and Education complements her Diploma of Business Studies from Massey University.

Under the guidance of Emeritus Professor Michele Leggott, Anni's dissertation "Land, Gold & Liberty" investigated Original Poetry published in Otago newspapers during the gold-rush era. Dr Selina Tusitala-Marsh also provided much influence for Anni in her studies, mentoring her in Pacific Poetry.

Visual arts are a source of inspiration for Anni, and her first published work "Sonata" appears in ECHO: Responses to the paintings of Tina Frantzen (2017), edited by Tessa Duder. ECHO is the result of a collaborative endeavour with other artists and writers at an Auckland Art Week workshop.

Anni has enjoyed an extensive business career in both the energy industry and the medical sector. She performs at Poetry Lounge events and experiments with visual poetry on Instagram. Her writing studio is a villa in Devonport, and she juggles belonging to several writing groups and book clubs with being a world nomad.

When not writing, Anni runs marathons. She has completed twenty events, including her first international marathon, New York, in 2018. She is currently training for both Athens Marathon and the inaugural Arctic Marathon. Having attained her goal of completing the six Abbott World Marathon Majors within ten years (but accomplished in five), she is now focused on publishing a memoir about her artists’ residency in Orquevaux, France, during Covid-times, finishing her first novel and weaving together a nautical poetry collection.
