Bridget Freeman-Rock
I earn my living through word craft in Hawke's Bay, as a freelance writer, journalist, editor and proofreader.
I've been a senior writer for regional magazine BayBuzz for nine years, writing feature articles on environmental, social and health system issues and essays with a hyper-local focus on landscape and history.
I co-founded The Hook (thehook.nz) in 2018 - a dedicated online platform for reviewing arts and culture in Hawke's Bay. Along with commissioning, editing, writing and publishing reviews, this has also involved engaging and mentoring emergent writers.
I have a BA in Literary Studies (Deakin University, Melb), a Postgrad. Dip. in English and Creative Writing from Massey, an abandoned Masters thesis on German post-war literature, a diploma in Editing, Proofreading and Book Publishing, and language certificates in German and te reo Maori.

It's tagline is 'Hawke's Bay up close, in-depth'. It has been publishing for more than a decade, and over the Covid-19 lockdown developed an online platform to supplement its print format.
