Sherryl Clark

Sherryl Clark has published more than 70 children's and YA books, including picture books, verse novels and middle grade/YA novels. Her books have been awarded the NSW Premier's Award for Children's Writing (for "Fam Kid" in 2005) and the CBCA Honour Book (for "Sixth Grade Style Queen (Not!)") in 2008. Her books have been CBCA Notables 14 times, most recently for "Mina and the Whole Wide World" in 2022. Her publishers include UQP, Penguin RandomHouse, HarperCollins and Pearson UK, among others. Her books have been published in Australia and NZ, the UK, USA, China, Spain, Mexico and France.

In 2018 she entered her adult crime novel, "Trust Me, I'm Dead" in the CWA Debut Dagger award and was shortlisted, which lead to a two-book deal with Verve Books UK. TMID came out in 2019, followed by "Dead and Gone" in 2020. "Mad, Bad and Dead" will be published in 2022.

Sherryl has published more than 100 poems and short stories in journals and magazines, most recently a crime short story called "Death in Seventeen Syllables" in Mystery Magazine (Canada). She the supervising editor of Poetrix magazine, Australasia's only magazine for women poets, for 20 years, and has also been the editor of a number of anthologies and collections.

She taught Professional Writing and Editing (Diploma and Cert IV) for 23 years at Victoria University Polytech, and continues to teach workshops and classes in schools and the community as well as online.

She has done many school visits and workshops over the years travelling far and wide, been a Writer in Residence in schools and in the community. 

She has a BA majoring in literature from Deakin University, an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Hamline University in Minneapolis, USA, and a PhD from Victoria University in Melbourne. Her topic was fairy tales, with an exegesis and a creative work.

She now lives in New Zealand (her birthplace) where she continues to write, and also works as a freelance editor focusing on fiction, poetry and children's books.
