Emma Hislop (Kāi Tahu, Kāti Māmoe, Waitaha) is a writer currently living and working in Taranaki. She is the recipient of the 2027 Robert Burns Fellowship. Emma’s second book is a novel titled Cure and will be published in June 2027 with Te Herenga Waka University Press. She is signed with agent Martin Shaw at The Books Desk. Emma’s first book of short fiction, Ruin, was published in March 2023 with Te Herenga Waka University Press and won the Hubert Church Best First Book of Fiction at the 2024 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards. Her fiction and non-fiction writing has been published in New Zealand and internationally. She has an MA with Distinction from the International Institute of Modern Letters. Emma is part of Paemanu Artists Collective, for Kāi Tahu artists. She is a facilitator for Faber Writing Academy and a mentor for Te Kaituhi Māori with the New Zealand Society of Authors.
