Gareth Renowden is a writer, photographer and truffle grower based in the Waipara Valley. During a 30 year career in journalism and magazine publishing in the UK and NZ he has worked as a journalist, editor, photographer, publisher and consultant. Since arriving in NZ in the mid-90s with his Christchurch born wife Camille and their two children, he has written four books and contributed articles to many magazines and newspapers, including NZ Geographic and Growing Today.He has just published The Aviator, a science fiction satire set in a near future being battered by rapid climate change and economic collapse. It's the first in a planned series of books set in The Burning World.Hot Topic - Global Warming & The Future of New Zealand (AUT Media, 2007) was shortlisted for the Royal Society of NZ's inaugural science book prize.The Truffle Book (Limestone Hills Publishing 2005) won the Special Jury Award at the 2007 Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in Beijing, and he was the keynote speaker at the 2007 Oregon Truffle Festival.He publishes the influential Hot Topic blog (http://hot-topic.co.nz/ ), covering climate change science and politics in New Zealand.
