Gill Winter
My first two books, "Between Monks and Monkeys" and "The Yeti in the Library", were written after I had spent time in Dharamshala, India, teaching English to Tibetan refugees. It was such a fascinating experience that I wanted to share it. I also became dedicated to the cause of Tibetan independence, and these books are my way of bringing the struggles of the Tibetans, both inside and outside Tibet, to a wider audience.
My first novel, "Before the Magic Fades", came from my growing relaisation that independence or even autonomy for Tibet is a fading dream under the present circumstances. The book is a rewriting of the invasion of Tibet by China, in another dimension, with more magic and more hope for a positive outcome.
