Jeffrey Buchanan was born in Wellington of Arab-Celtic heritage. He has authored five novels, primarily about LGBTQI+. He was the 2024 winner of the Michael Gifkins Prize for best unpublished novel. He wrote two YA novels and six language textbooks used extensively in education systems across Melnesia. He completed two Masters Degrees and a Doctorate in Education. He worked in international development for thirty years. He lives with his husband on a remote coast of the South Island and spends a lot of time gazing at waves and seagulls.
