Jo Buer

Jo Buer is a gothic suspense and paranormal mystery author living in New Zealand. She is a sucker for the supernatural, time travel, and all things woo-woo. From an early age she came to realise that sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

Jo lives in an ordinary house in an ordinary town with her husband and feline familiars, Atlas, Gaia, Zeus, and Hades. When not doting on her cats, devouring self-help books or gorging on chocolate, she writes slightly dark, sometimes scary, often ghostly stories with a smattering of romance.

Jo is also the host of the Alchemy for Authors podcast - a podcast to transform and supercharge your writing life with an emphasis on mindset and manifestation.

    Everyone hungers for something…

Running from a violent past and desperate for a fresh start, Cara Jennings is relieved when she’s offered a position at the mysterious Nysa Grove School.

There’s Sebastian, the handsome deputy principal whose mercurial moods seem to carry unspoken warnings. And there’s Deanna, the revered principal who speaks in riddles, bakes with uncanny devotion, and appears to hold the entire school in thrall.

As strange visions plague Cara, and children disappear, she finds herself questioning everything — and everyone. What secrets are her colleagues hiding?

Haunted by the ghosts of her own past, Cara must decide how much of herself she will sacrifice for the thing she craves most: belonging.

A haunting gothic tale of desire and the quiet horrors of institutional devotion, Hunger Pangs explores what we are willing to consume — and become — in order to be accepted.
