    JOHN TERRIS is engaged in publishing and writing, having launched the regional monthly magazine Hutt Alive (now Vibrant Hutt) seven years ago. He has been a regular broadcaster on National Radio’s Sounds Historical, for which  he wrote two series of reminiscence, Radio Daze, about the Golden Age of Radio, and Hawera Daze, about his boyhood in a small town in South Taranaki;   He has also has written and produced two series of illustrated video interviews for the Hutt City Libraries; one is on the growth of the State Housing areas of Taita and Naenae, called Village to City and the other with local  War Veterans and called All Over the World.     His autobiography, Being Who You Are ,was published in 2004. In 2012 he published a short book entitled How To Make A Speech and How To Run A Meeting.    This draws on John’s extensive experience as a MP and a Mayor.    In 2014 he published September Showdown, a light-hearted look at running for elections, and is working on an update for this election year.   He is currently working with Frances Cherry on the second volume of his memoirs.  He is President of Media Matters in NZ, which advocates for the protection of children and young people from media exploitation, and contributes opinion pieces and reviews to their website, www.viewers.org.nz, as well as writing for his own Facebook page.   He is a third term member of the Hutt Valley District Health Board and Patron of the Hutt Multicultural Council.   He enjoys hitting a tennis ball inaccurately, and is mad keen on Scottish Country Dancing.  He is a member of the Queen’s Service Order, a holder of the 1990 Medal, and a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow.
