Joseph Janiszewski works as a tumuaki tuarua at a kura in West Auckland. He lives in Glen Eden with his wife and four children. He has begun to gain success with writing competitions in the past four years:

2021: Honourable Mention in New Zealand Writers College Short Story Competition with the story, Once more over the Remutakas

2022: Third Place in the NZSA Graeme Lay Short Story Competition with the story, Sauerkraut Soup

2022: Winning a year-long mentorship with Philippa Werry through NZSA with the novel manuscript for Titiro ki tai.

2023: Longlisted in New Zealand Writers College Short Story Competition with the story, Thin Places.

2023: Third Place Equal in the Cambridge Autumn Festival Short Story Competition with the story, The Fireman.

2023: Highly Commended in the Graeme Lay Short Story Competition with the story, The Flight.

2024: Highly Commended in the Graeme Lay Short Story Competition with the story, End of the Western Line.

2025: Shortlisted in the Cambridge Autumn Festival Short Story Competition with the story, In the Roar.
