Kate Spencer is a performance poet who produces and performs at the Wellington Feminist Poetry Club, Poetry in Motion, the Speakeasy Sessions, and Naked Girls Reading NZ. She has been a regional and national slam finalist, regularly MCs Poetry in Motion and their slams, and self-published two collections of poetry this year – Squirt and Reflect and Resound.
Squirt is a celebration of sex and sexuality and can be found in Unity Bookstore Wellington. It was released to go with her award-winning NZ Fringe show of the same name. She is taking the show to Melbourne and Sydney Fringe Festivals in September.
Reflect and Resound touches on more spiritual matters, the church-going side of her soul. She is currently training to be a lay preacher. Kate also has a poem published in the upcoming seventh edition of Salty, a zine produced in Wellington. She loves writing poetry on the spot on her typewriter at markets and bespoke poetry for special occasions.
Kate does freelance editing, writing, and photography; she sings in the church choir, is Minister’s Steward, and volunteers on Monday mornings serving teas and coffees; she loves enormous, bucket-sized mugs of coffee and describes herself as a dichotomy.
