Katherine Dewar

A seventies child and eighties teen, author Katherine Dewar was raised in North Yorkshire in a house filled with books, computers and animals. She studied politics and worked in Leeds before emigrating to Aotearoa NZ, where she founded a marketing business, GoodSense, to help worthwhile companies and volunteers with the Green Party. Katherine has made up stories for as long as she can remember, exploiting plastic animals as characters before she could wield a pen. Her early writing was encouraged by school clubs, the Arvon Foundation and her endlessly supportive parents. She credits Dame Fiona Kidman’s creative writing course, her local writers’ group and the discipline of crafting client soundbites for getting her writing to a standard to unleash on the world. Katherine loves long walks, loud music, wild places and good books. Prior to her debut novel, Ruby and the blue sky, Katherine has had a short story published in the Black Swan collection, Home.

Ruby and the Blue Sky

Katherine Dewar's debut novel is a tale of fame, power, sacrifice - and tea. The book is a feminist, climate change thriller set in Leeds in the UK, where the author lived for nine years before emigrating to Aotearoa. “The world is what we make it. Beautiful, fierce, thriving. This is Ruby’s world and I want in.” Metiria Turei, Green Party co-leader (Aotearoa NZ) “Have you ever read something you enjoyed so much that you didn’t actually want it to end? I was very disciplined to not just stay up all night and devour this one in one gulp.” Leanne Marie Mease, The Culture Vulture (UK) “Ruby and the Blue Sky is a deftly woven tale of light and shadow, love and hatred. In an abused world, Ruby provides us with hope.” Iona Winter, Author Publisher: Ruru Press Paperback and eBook ISBN: 978-0-473-34550-1 or 978-0-473-34550-8 The book is available for sale through NZ bookshops (RRP $39.90 incl GST) with 55% trade discount, supplied Print on Demand from Australia via IngramContent matthew.davis@ingramcontent.com or call +61 3 9765 4800.
