Valerie Meyer

Val Meyer writes and paints by the shores of Wellington Harbour. Both her parents were lively raconteurs but she owes her love of fiction to the many stories her father made up for her as a child, stories that, sadly, were never recorded. Val has had her short fiction published under the name Kay Meyer. Her story was placed second in the 2015 Page and Blackmore short story competition and was a runner up in the 2019 competition. Another of her stories was highly commended in the 2022 Cambridge Autumn Festival competition. She received an NZSA menteeship in 2015 for her first novel, which was set in ancient Rome. She is currently revising a second novel, set in the Wairarapa during the 2000s, and working on a themed collection of short stories and a memoir about her father.
