The Body Snatcher

The Body Snatcher is set in the Marlborough Sounds in 1947/48. Brian Lowe, a cocky puberty-struck fourteen year-old lusting after his dream woman, and testing his entrepreneurial wings, discovers that for every step forward, life far too often throws in several rat-arsed steps backwards. When he stumbles across a body under the wharf nobody believes him because it’s disappeared by the time the local copper arrives on the scene. Determined to find out what happened to the body, Brian’s efforts land him in situations that everyone, bar him, find hilariously funny.

A Secret Mind

After falling and hitting her head when she was four years-old, Libby Budd begins to suffer seizures and throws uncontrollable temper tantrums. Only her father can calm Libby, but after he’s killed in an accident, her mother marries a man who has an evil past. Realising that Libby knows his dark secret he plots to have her committed to the Hokitika Asylum. Unable to speak, Libby is powerless to warn her mother.

Cross the River to Home

Henry Bramwell comes to New Zealand in search of his sister, Poppy, who is now married to a doctor in Charleston. He falls in love with Mai, a Chinese woman, but this is the 1870s when such unions are frowned on and their relationship seems doomed as not only their families, but the community conspire to keep them apart.
