Kim Beatrice lives in the Horowhenua District of New Zealand. She is a frequent contributor to book collections in New Zealand and overseas. In 2001 and 2002, Kim took part in the World Championship Poet Awards in the USA. 60 countries participated and Kim was one of 10 finalists and awarded 5th place in both years. Kim is university educated with one honours and two master’s degrees in writing disciplines. She has completed her seventh and final YA novel in the An Angel in the Undergrowth series and her latest children's books Peter William Buckley, Pirate Things A-Z and When I Grow Up with more in the pipeline.

An Angel in the Undergrowth: The Rebirth is set in two conflicting realms, a Dark Realm and a Light Realm. Lucia Puccini is born a golden Angel and is part mortal and part mythical. Legend says Lucia’s fate is that she will die, but her mother’s beliefs differ and she gives her daughter to the undergrowth where she will be safe. Sixteen years later, Lucia is rebirthed and faces many challenges in adjusting to her new life. Chello Barleti is also mortal and mythical and is a guardian of the Dark Realms. His ancestors and family are trapped by a curse and to release the curse he must become a gothic knight. Chello lives in a 17th Century church ruin sanctuary where his ancestors and living family visit. Otto, an ogre and Chello’s companion helps with the rebirthings and Chello’s tasks. Mythicals living in the Dark Realm are given the opportunity to choose to live as a mortal on the Light side or remain as a mythical on the Dark side. If they stay there are rules and consequences if the rules are broken.

Lucia’s health is rapidly deteriorating, and she must leave the Dark Realm and travel to the Light Realm as she becomes gravely ill. Chello takes her to the water’s edge of the great river separating the realms. He can go no further as his powers are the antithesis to the Light Realm. Lucia insists that he help her cross the river, but once Chello sets foot in the Light Realm, the land becomes violent with massive storms and high winds uprooting everything in their path. Together they run for their lives, but Lucia’s health is failing, and she is unable to keep up with Chello. Chello has no alternative but to leave her and return to the Dark side before the Light side is frozen in time for a thousand years. Chello leaves, the storm abates, and Lucia sleeps in the undergrowth until she is woken by Father Michael.

Lucia now has her full powers and can return in safety, but she must take great care to protect those in danger in the Dark Realm.
