Margaret-Mary Hollins

As a pākehā artist in Aotearoa, I acknowledge Māori and their tīpuna as the custodians of this whenua, and honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Born in Pōneke, Aotearoa and raised in Tāmaki Makaurau, I trained in Australia graduating from The Sydney Acting School in 1986 and later studied with École Philippe Gaulier in London in 1996. From 2009-2017, I served as the Artistic Director of TAPAC, (The Auckland Performing Arts Centre). In 2025, I completed a Masters in Creative Performance Practice (Distinction) with Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School.

With a theatre career of four decades, I have created and collaborated on numerous original theatre productions as a director, actor, and script editor. My work has largely involved developing a story collaboratively in the rehearsal room, with the script emerging as the final stage of the process. I am now turning to the craft of writing for the page as a starting point. This is a new process for me, and one from which I have much to learn and discover.
