NZSA Profile
Margaret McCallum’s writing is focussed, thus far and for the foreseeable future, around the subject of death. She draws on her experiences, both personal and professional, on both sides of death – accompanying people who are dying, conducting funerals and offering grief support. And under it all is a drive to help awaken the rest of us to the wonder and beauty that can be present around death, and to the aliveness and joy that facing our own mortality can give us.
Margaret started her working life as a primary teacher, swapped it for raising her own three children in multi-ethnic Porirua, and in the forty-odd years since, has moved about Aotearoa-New Zealand and the UK, learning, growing and exploring. The themes of simplicity, creativity and sustainability weave their way into her living and working. Family and community are close to her heart.
