Talofa lava, Kia ora koutou.

I'm Marisa Maepu, a New Zealand-born Samoan writer based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington). I enjoy writing short stories for both adults and children - and have published several over the years.

Stories with a bit of a twist are my favourite to write - especially when I can pull them off successfully!

I have up my literary sleeve a couple of bigger books. One is a young adult fantasy/adventure novel set in Aotearoa New Zealand. The other, is a novel-in-stories that plays with multiple narration, different genres and varying perspectives - broadly reflecting how Pasefika stories are collectively held and transmitted.

It’s important to push the boundaries of books – including novels - and what they can be and what they can represent. The word 'novel' after all means new - and here in Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa, the great Pacific - we’re no strangers to charting new territory.
