Nicola is a recent graduate of Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa Massey University’s Master of Creative Writing programme, where she majored in poetry. She has published work in Landfall, Poetry New Zealand, Takahē and other Aotearoa publications. In 2024, she was mentored by Mikaela Nyman under the NZSA mentorship scheme, and was the recipient of the Kathleen Grattan Prize for a Sequence of Poems. She has served as Treasurer of the Otago Southland Branch of NZSA since 2021.
