Nigel Ferguson

Almost Persuaded is a novel with a real  New Zealand atmosphere of gang involvement in the distribution of drugs and the disastrous effects on those unfortunate enough to become habitual users. It attempts to show how drugs may be imported into the country, the distribution and police methods used to catch the sellers.

Almost Persuaded

Self published in 2019 and printed by The Copy Press, Nelson, Almost Persuaded incorporates some well-researched detail of the drug-culture in New Zealand bound in with an interesting relationship drama.

I have used as chronological landmarks, the Christchurch earthquakes of 2010 / 2011, and the mosque shootings in March 2019.

Matt McAvoy, a UK reviewer had this to say about Almost Persuaded: Ferguson is clearly passionate about his writing, and the causes he makes mention of in it -- with his research labour ethic and his eloquence as an author, he is an extremely credible one.

The Benefactor's Son

A politically-charged thriller; set against the backdrop of Hong Kong unrest and organised crime. A young man from Christchurch, who has just inherited a fortune and a successful company, uncovers his dead father's mysterious international dealings -- and other, much more personal secrets along the way. . .

As with his first novel Almost Persuaded, the author finds inspiration in current and recent events of significance, adding a realism to the fictional characters he creates. The Hong Kong demonstrations of 2019 were in response to Beijing's determination to renege on the promised one country, two systems scenario for the colony. These incidents form the background of the novel, but there is much more in store, when Harry Trimble travels to London, Beirut, Zurich, Berlin and Paris to follow in his father's footsteps to uncover a trail of charitable gifts that may have strings attached . . .
