Peter Farrell is not the first person to discover he is illegitimate but few have been brave enough to provide such an illuminating account of the events that led to the search for a parent. This is a powerful story of loss, love and survival spanning nine decades and two continents. The Lie That Settles was described by New Zealand Books as a "deeply humane account" which "astutely avoids sentimentality and judgement". Radio New Zealand (Kathryn Ryan) called it "a wonderful social history alongside personal history. A delightful book"
