Regina de Wolf-Ngarimu

R. de Wolf is a Māori author from the East Coast of New Zealand. After many years living in Australia and abroad, she now lives in Tūranganui-a-Kiwa (Gisborne) with her husband.  The Inspiration for the six-book Spirit Voyager series was people’s curiosity to understand where Māori people came from, why and how they came to Aotearoa (New Zealand). The stories are fiction but draw on aspects of history and Pasefika culture. R. de Wolf’s novels incorporate themes she is passionate about no matter what genre – equality, empowerment, the balance of nature, the acknowledgement of ancient wisdom, and the importance of women’s rights. She also writes poetry in different forms and on a wide variety of topics.

He has a thirst for death and power. Mako takes what he wants and crushes opposition.

She has a gift. A young healer who converses with the Ancestors. But even with the voices in her head, Marama cannot quiet the panic in her heart as the impending threat to her home looms.

The Ancestors offer deliverance, prophesying a land of abundance and sending Starman the navigator. But the decision is not easy. Marama's people must choose whether to trust the dead and leave Green Island or risk the erasure of their existence.

Journey back on the tides of this 16th-century wayfaring odyssey when the art of celestial navigation meant more than oceanic voyages, but a future weaved by the Gods.

Seven years have elapsed since Marama and her people fled Hawaiki before nature's unfolding wrath. Trusting their ancestors, they navigated the Pacific Ocean and settled in the welcoming arms of Aotearoa. Marama relinquished her grief for her first man to love again, but now her son must return to the islands as his grandfather foretold. Three men she loves sail without her. To save her undefended village, Marama is forced to abandon her child and people.

Lured into the schemes of an unknown tribe's ancestors, Marama struggles to survive. Claimed by a brutal chief, she must gain his favour to save her unborn child. Manipulated by desperate spirits into doing their bidding, Marama cannot escape and risk endangering her loved ones. She finds herself an object of hatred, in a village that places no value on women. Marama will challenge the inequality and cultural fabric of her adopted village. The struggle to hold fast to her humanity and values taxes her sorely. If she loses the battle, lives will be lost, including her own. Isolated and oppressed, Marama seeks the path while the future weaves apace.

Humankind brought the Earth to the brink of destruction. It’s 2144, and life has changed for the better. Or has it? The ruling Council prioritised restoration of the ecosystem and sharing resources fairly. Based on 20th Century longitudinal research, the Council also introduced the Goodness Algorithm to manage the five per cent of humans who may cause societal problems.

Julia is a leading genetic scientist. She has noticed a change in the behaviour and intelligence of children. They are evolving rapidly.

The Quality Control Department appears to terminate Chinta Katone as an imperfect human, but it transpires someone has abducted her under baffling and sinister circumstances.

During his test, Julia’s son Ilya redefines the Goodness Algorithm, and her theory on accelerating evolution is confirmed. Departments want to study Ilya – he becomes a person of interest.

Ilya vanishes. The disappearance causes a chain of events that will change the world, belief systems, and even history.

Adventure and challenges await them. They battle ghouls, search for a missing girl, and travel to an island occupied by brutal cannibals.

Sailing into danger, Kai must seek the most dangerous man in the islands - an evil chief and blood priest. Kai utilises all his cunning and skills, but his quest to fulfil his task eludes him.

Just when success is within his grasp, it slips away, leaving Kai broken and bitter.

Poetry in a Pohutukawa

Nothing says summer holidays like the splash of red from the Pohutukawa flower – bring it on!

That is the inspiration for the poem collection title and a few scribbles to entertain you at the beach or in the hammock this year.  During the cooler months you can cosy up by the fire and enjoy some ramblings from R. de wolf. In the 2022 soup is a pinch of memoir, a teaspoon of nostalgia, a cup of giggles, a stir of thought and a dusting of opinion.

No poet laureate offerings to go with your pavlova or ham in this book. While the odd metaphor may jump out to pinch your bum while nobody’s looking, Poetry In a Pohutukawa is squarely aimed at the reader who likes to understand what they are reading.

De Wolf supplies her trademark reflections after each piece, to tell you what inspired her to write the poem, story, or prose. Like all human beings she’s sometimes happy, sad, pithy, ridiculous or pissed off. But if that doesn’t grab you – there’s also a word finder for the kids.
