Rachel O'Connor

Rachel O’Connor was born in Christchurch, New Zealand. A graduate of the University of Canterbury, she lived and worked in Europe for more than twenty years. Much of that time was spent in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, where she was a teacher of English Literature and Language at Anatolia College.

In 2013, O’Connor returned to New Zealand with her husband, Greek glass artist Dionysios Koulizis, and their three children. She wrote Whispering City, her debut novel, for her 2015 Master of Creative Writing at the University of Auckland. In 2020, the novel was translated into Greek and published by Kedros Publishing in Athens. O'Connor's short fiction and nonfiction have been published in Ireland and New Zealand, and broadcast on Radio New Zealand. She is currently completing a Creative PhD at the University of Auckland, where she is a tutor of Literature and Creative Writing, and working on her second novel.
